Grant Officer_Heartland Alliance International (HAI)

Job Summary:
The Grant Manager will be responsible for developing sub-awards, maintains partner relationships, reviews program and financial reports, and conducts capacity building activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Grants Unit focal person for Heartland Alliance Nigeria, liaising closely with the Financial, Program and Strategic Information Unit on the development, implementation, monitoring and close-out of grants/sub awards issued to sub recipients
  • Perform functions of financial administration and reporting to include, but not limited to: preparation and timely submission of grant applications and reports, development and adjustment of associated budgets, coordination of budgeted funds, screening and processing of Advances, Retirements and ensuring the timely application for reimbursement from the sub recipients.
  • Oversee the preparation and timely submission of grant applications, application amendments, budget and budget narrative.
  • Maintain a transparent and auditable filling system, including paper/electronic files and grant report tracking sheet. Review of Local Implementing Partners, financial reports, bank statement and updating the sub- recipient worksheet.
  • Keeps abreast of all USAID and HAN contracting actions and policies that are relevant to grant or subaward management.
  • Carry out capacity assessment of Sub recipients.
  • Work closely with field office and program teams to ensure that activities are implemented in line with donor regulations and signed grant or subaward agreement
  • Provide training and technical support to Sub-recipients to improve sub-recipients administrative and financial system and procedures.
  • Review and verify obligation funding available and financial data reported by Local partners and sub-agreement tracking workbooks.
  • Research, identify and analyze new sources of funding.
  • Support in the development of Proposal and Budget for identified grant opportunities.
  • Track Advances and Retirements and make Entry of sub-recipients’ actual expense into QuickBooks.
  • Assist with any other duties as required by the Director of Finance and Operations.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Social Science or any related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with grants/Sub awards in similar sized program and with international donors Management experience

  • Ability to work effectively with government and civil society partners and communities as well as transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through workshops, training and meetings using participatory methods and adult learning principles.

Language Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Knowledge of Local Language preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in public speaking
Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems, Power Point. Other software routinely used by HAN
