Key Population Advisor_Heartland Alliance International (HAI)

Job Summary:
The position provides representation for Key Population on all HAN programs in Nigeria. Incumbent is responsible for coordinating HAN human rights and Gender response. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serves as focal person and representative of Key Population (KP) for HAN-Nigeria.
  • In coordination with the Human Rights Officer strengthen HAN Access to justice and gender based programming approach.
  • Strengthen HAN’s Key Population Local Implementing Partners (LIPs) on safety and security, human rights intervention and conflict resolutions mechanism.
  • Support the Director of program in the review of program implementation strategies for key population.
  • Support the Director of Program to conduct monthly review of HAN-Nigeria Local implementing Partners workplan and budgets
  • Coordinate HAN Nigeria participation and contributions to National KP secretariat activities as guided.
  • Coordinate with Access to Health officer to provide access to justice and safety and security for key population in all HAN program states
  • In coordination with the HAN management team work with stakeholders such as NACA, UNDP, foreign Missions and Embassies/Consulates, TWGs and other bodies to facilitate reviews of policies and activities that promote the respect/protection of the rights of KP in Nigeria.
  • Make regular visits to project sites to assess and verify program participants human right’s needs, problems, service availability, delivery and utilization, and advises the management team accordingly.
  • Support the identification and development of new business development proposal writing for Human Right, Safety and Security and other related thematic areas for HAN Nigeria.
  • Prepare periodic project work plans and budgets in conjunction with the Director of Programs and other related activities in liaison with other section heads to ensure appropriate utilization of project resources.

Education and/or Experience:
  • First Degree in social science, public health or another relevant discipline
  • Master’s degree in public health
  • At least 5 years’ experience in international development, experience working in an HIV prevention and care program.
  • Demonstrated skills in report writing, facilitating, training and capacity building through technical assistance and mentoring
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and gender responsive programming.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct training and informational sessions.

Language Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Knowledge of Local Language preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in public speaking
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, Windows operating systems, Power Point.
  • Other software routinely used by Heartland Alliance International
